Onion glass demijohns, locally known in Italy as damigiane, are large, bulbous glass vessels used historically to transport and ferment wine, oil, and spirits. Throughout the 20th century, these vessels were hand-blown or semi-automatically pressed in Italian glassworks, often encased in woven wicker or protective plastic baskets for safe transit.
Today, these mid-to-late 20th-century Italian demijohns are highly sought-after collector's and decor items. Prized for their imperfections—like small trapped air bubbles and unique, rippled glass textures—they are commonly repurposed as rustic floor vases, centerpiece displays, or patio decorations.
Pick up from our Rowville workshop weekdays between 10am and 4pm or Saturdays by arrangement. Due to the risk of breakage, we are not offering postal/courier delivery.
